As early fall temperatures usher in less humid days & cooler nights, subtle  temperature changes to the water occur in the giant  pools that contain batches of curing leather and the organic bark tannins during the month long curing process. In 2021, I found that in this certain time of year,  some of the heaviest batches come out with rich  deep tones of wood-like highs and lows in color tones, rather than the typical pale and rigid russet harness which,I will add, is easily the nicest full-grain harness leather found on the planet. It seems that by early November, the subsequent batches are all back to normal. There evidently is no way to replicate the mysterious golden oak hues so, we Bible we can, and then we wait until next Autumn. As legend has it, tanners originally coined these few extra rich heavy batches  “ghost in the oak swamp” due to this event coinciding with Halloween some years.     The annual feedback on this unique harness leather from customers adds to the legend of their already popular and strong harness leather’s growing reputation. You can guess when I select my hides and since 2021 when I bought 18 sides, there has some years none and some years 4 or 5 hides. At close to $400 landed in Arizona, these are the most expensive hides we buy all year. Fortunately here in Arizona we have the perfect dry and stable environment for my leather vault storage and I am careful to protect the supply. \nAnd there you have it, the Legend of the Single Batch Select.
