Then she threw herself dramatically on the leather sofa with an anguished wail. “You haven’t returned my calls in weeks! It’s because I turned forty, isn’t it? The studio is going to release me from my contract! I’m finished!” She said that with her face buried in the cushions, but he understood what she said. It wasn’t the first time Sylvia had shown up unannounced and caused a scene. \nBernie got up and poured them each a glass of cognac from the decanter on his sidebar. He sat down on the couch beside her. “Sweetie, babydoll, come on! You’re always my number one client! You know that!” Sylvia picked her head up enough to see where the cognac was, took it out of Bernie’s hand, and threw it back in one gulp. Then she put her face down into the cushions and cried some more. “Honeydoll, baby sweets, you gotta know Bernie is your guy!
