One of the memories that has stayed with him most strongly is seeing his grandparents depulp coffee manually using stones before mechanical depulpers existed in the community. He remembers how neighbors would lend each other their small machines until eventually every family could acquire their own. “That is something very strong,” he says, because it reminds him how coffee production first began around them.\nToday he lives on the farm with his wife and son. His wife has spent many years working in coffee nurseries and still manages seedlings today, while their daughter, who studied computer science and now works in Valle del Cauca, still returns during vacations to help plant coffee. Their son currently studies marketing while also working. John says he does not know whether his children will continue in coffee in the future but believes “they carry it in their hearts.”\nWhen asked about the accomplishment that makes him proudest, John says it has been giving his children an education despite growing up from “very humble beginnings and a lot of poverty.” Looking ahead, he and his wife hope to eventually establish a small business outside coffee that can help support them as they grow older and the physical demands of farm work become harder over time.\nProcessing: Cherries underwent a traditional washed process with approximately 24 hours of fermentation before washing. The coffee was dried on patios over 10 to 15 days.\n\nOn the farm, wastewater from coffee washing is directed back into the lot, while coffee pulp, guinea pig manure, and other organic materials are composted and later used as fertilizer.\n \nRegion: Narino\nVarietal: Castillo & Colombia\nElevation: ","images":["https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0113/9222/files/1encanto12.png?v=1779300971","https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0113/9222/files/New_Bags_Med-Res_002_da87ef1f-7c2e-4d3e-a870-a354dbd30da8.jpg?v=1779300991","https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0113/9222/files/New_Bags_Med-Res_003_3afebfaa-27a7-4fec-bbd5-306d0b3144dc.jpg?v=1779300992","https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0113/9222/files/1encanto2.5.png?v=1779300979","https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0113/9222/files/1encanto5.png?v=1779300986"],"price":26,"currency":"USD","in_stock":true,"inventory_qty":29997,"dynamic_pricing":false,"listed_at":"2026-07-10T04:59:24.770Z"},"share_url":"https://firestarter.network/l/lst_P29uMYO9","purchase":{"summary":"Live product listing on the Firestarter agent commerce network.
